This week I made a demo in TouchDesigner based on a previous idea.
It's a light-polluted interactive map, and the end result will be a projection.
At this stage, I am using the mouse instead of people's hands and the interactive effects I am trying to achieve now are.
1. When the mouse is touched in a dark area (an area with low light pollution), the area around the mouse (hand) is black. Still, when the mouse is moved to an area with high light pollution, this area expands. However, when the mouse is moved to a location of increased light pollution, this area expands.
2. I also tried to introduce some data, perhaps in real-time, around the viewer's hand when the viewer's hand touches the map, such as data showing light pollution, for example, the level of light pollution.
3. When the viewer's hand moves to an area of the map where light pollution levels are particularly high, such as London or Shanghai, the viewer can also see the area's population or the factors that contribute to light pollution.
Quick reflection this week
This week was also a challenging week for me as I got a D in my FMP presentation. However, according to the tutor's comments, it was easy to see that these were the same issues that I had identified during my tutorials with various teachers in the previous weeks. The results cannot be changed, but these are issues that I need to be aware of for the rest of my work.
I am still at a beginner level with TouchDesigner as I have added a lot of content to my project and this week I have been focusing on creating demos with TD and learning how to achieve the effects I want in the software. It is a big challenge for me to learn new software, but I think I should face this challenge since I have chosen to do so, so I will be more serious about learning this software in my future work.
